Water Industry Services Team — Outstanding Performance in Cairns
The FITT Resources Water Industry Services team has been engaged on a major manhole refurbishment project on behalf of Cairns Regional Council, with great success.
The team was tasked with refurbishing around 120 gravity sewer manholes across the council region as part of its annual capital works program, with FITT Resources being awarded the project after a competitive tender process.
Working under the auspices of the council’s utility services team, the scope of the work included:
- Patching and repairing manhole walls;
- Repairing manhole benching;
- Repairing manhole channels;
- Sealing points of infiltration; and
- Application of a lining system/coating system.
Fosroc Renderoc CAC, a high performance mortar with superior biogenic corrosion resistance, was used during the repair and reline process.
The work was carried out in two phases — October and November 2022, and then May and June 2023.
Cairns Regional Council was so pleased with the team’s outstanding performance during stage 1 that FITT Resources was consequently awarded a variation contract covering the refurbishment of an additional 60 manholes across the local government area, without an open tender.
In recognition of the team’s hard work and their professional approach throughout, FITT Resources has rewarded them with a fishing trip so they could make the most of their time in Cairns.
This project, in partnership with the council, has proven to be another success story, highlighting the skills and expertise of the Water Industry Services division.
