Chesterton 442 Split Seal
For large pumps, horizontal split case pumps, vertical pumps or other pumps where disassembly is difficult or costly, the Chesterton 442 split seal is an ideal solution.
Designed to operate in both vacuum and high pressures, the 442 split seal is easy to install (with captive screws that do not fall out), while the ball-and-socket O-rings provide a leak-free seal without the need for adhesives. In addition, they are low maintenance and so help to lower the costs of ownership.
The standard 442 split seal is available in sizes ranging from 25 mm to 195 mm (1.00″ to 7.750″). There is also a jumbo size available, ranging in size from 200 mm to 305 mm (8.00” to 12.00”).

Chesterton 442C Cartridge Split Seal
The Chesterton 442C Cartridge Split Seal offers ease of installation combined with high level, reliable sealing.
Split seals are designed specifically to counter some of the limits of conventional cartridge seal design in terms of leakage and installation. Additionally, replacement can be undertaken without a pump needing to be dismantled. The short axial length and flexible gland positioning provides flexibility in installation, while a standard spare parts kit means that inventory costs can be reduced.
Chesterton 442C XL Cartridge Split Mechanical Seal
With extremely large pumps and other rotating equipment, there are high costs and safety risks associated with maintenance, and disassembly in particular.
Chesterton has now developed the 442C XL Split Seal specifically to suit rotating equipment with shafts from 125 mm to 195 mm in size (4.875″ to 7.750″) . This enables seals to be installed without the need for disassembly and downtime.
The 442C XL Split Seal also features a spring carrier plate to reduce installation errors, unique O-ring grooves for increased sealing capacity and versatility, automatic self-aligning faces and an interlocking rotary face.
