Case Study : Pump Repair and Overhaul for Goldenfields Water

FITT Resources provides a range of services for NSW water authorities and councils, including a recent overhaul of pumps at the Goldenfields Water No. 2 Pump Station.

This was a turnkey project involving the inspection, removal, repair and overhaul of pump #3 at Goldenfields Water pipeline booster #2 pump station, followed by the reinstallation of the pump and commissioning. Work was carried out both onsite, and in the FITT Resources turbomachinery workshop in Lisarow, NSW.

The aim of the project was to refurbish the 5 stage unit in order to achieve improved pump reliability and efficiency, through reclaiming ring clearances and restoring the ceramic coat internals. A 6t CNC borer and a 3D scanning arm were used as part of the process, and Chesterton 442 split seals were installed. There were a number of challenges that demanded solutions, not least line boring the 5 stage split case unit, which had 15 casing landings.

An original timetable of between 10 to 14 weeks for the completion of the work needed to be modified in response to amended COVID-19 working conditions, and the original schedule was extended by four weeks.

This project follows on from other work we have previously completed for Goldenfields Water, including pump overhaul and repair work on 5 stage, 2 stage, booster and pipeline pumps. The feedback from the client has been overwhelmingly positive, both in terms of the quality of the work and that FITT Resources was able to meet its expectation in terms of time and costs.
