The FITT Resources Turbomachinery Workshop in Action
FITT Resources was recently commissioned by a regional water board to undertake the complete off-site refurbishment of a large multi-stage pump in our workshop in Lisarow.
The FITT Resources Turbomachinery Division provides a comprehensive range of on-site and workshop-based rotating equipment services.
Our technicians are trained in the specialised area of high speed rotating equipment engineering, and have the expertise and experience to work with all types of high speed equipment, including steam turbines, compressors, gearboxes and multi-stage pumps.
FITT Resources was recently commissioned by a regional water board to undertake the complete off-site refurbishment of a large multi-stage pump in our workshop in Lisarow.
We were able to provide a complete removal/repair/reinstallation package, a cost-effective option that FITT Resources is able to offer our customers, and which has the added benefit of ensuring there is clearly defined job responsibility through the return to service process.
The 10-week repair, refurbishment and reinstall project involved:
- a complete strip and inspection of the pump
- line boring of the 5 stage casing
- pump shaft replacement
- upgrading of the pump casing sleeve
- reclaimed clearances for the wear rings
- converting compact seals to cartridge seals
- replacing the bearing pedestals
- pump casing coated with ceramic epoxy resin
As well as improving the operational reliability and efficiency of the pump, replacing worn materials and components will also serve to extend its overall service life — one of our key aims at FITT Resources.
In addition, FITT Resources also undertook the reinstallation and return to service of the refurbished pump. By undertaking this aspect of the work as well, we were able to add value for our customer, as reinstallation can represent a significant (but overlooked) component of overall ongoing maintenance costs.
